If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make noise?
Several years ago my two sons and I were playing golf at a nearby hilly golf course. It was a very gusty windy day. On one hole with a steep drop-off to the river, with the green just across the river, and many trees off to the side of the tee, my eldest son had just teed up his golf ball. Just then, a gust of wind toppled a large dead oak tree about 50 feet from us. Fortunately, the tree fell away from us but it made a very loud noise. When we gathered ourselves, we finished teeing off and went down onto the green. As we stood there contemplating the putts, my youngest son said calmly, "Just for the record, it does make noise!"
