My husband Jay passed away at the young age of 54. He loved nature; and we spent time at The Morton Arboretum, Garfield Park Conservatory, and the Chicago Botanical Gardens. We both especially loved Japanese gardens.
A group of friends surprised me with the gift of a tree for our yard in his honor. We had built a new house and were in the process of completing our landscaping. I picked out a lovely Japanese maple and planted it in a spot where I could see it from my favorite seat on the couch. The landscaper had suggested other placements that would work better with the landscape plan, but I wanted to be able to see the tree regularly.
Thirteen years have passed, and it is now a lovely tree. I have never tired of glancing at it each time I sit on the couch. What a precious way to memoralize a special life!
