It was at my first birthday party and my second.
It was six years ago and my once healthy backyard ash tree had succumbed to the dreaded ash borer disease.
Imagine coming home one day and thinking something horrible had happened to your neighborhood. It looked like a war zone.
Forty years ago, before we had children, we had a newly planted ash tree. The children came later and grew with the tree.
My husband and I bought a home in Homer Glen, IL in 1997. Even though the home was 10 years old, none of the previous owners felt that adding trees was an important investment.
There was an ash tree in the front yard of my childhood home. Although there were many trees in our yard, this tree stood alone.
