My story begins when I was born on October 28, 1950, to a Mom who loved the outdoors and trees and the Morton Arboretum.
If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make noise?
I stepped onto the crumbling asphalt trail
and followed it to the local wood where I stepped inside
and as I walked I watched the trees give way
Arms outstretched over Hobson Road and the bike paths along the Seven Bridges golf course like the covering of a bridge.
The main reason my wife I bought our home in Algonquin, IL, was for its mature oaks. We have a collection of white, bur and red oaks in our yard.
My husband and I moved into a new home in Grayslake in 1993. The subdivision was new, but it was built on the site of a former horse farm.
A mighty oak stood within Glacial Park in McHenry County for over 400 years.
As an arborist I often try to save little seedlings that will be lost for some reason or another.
